CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

I just wanted you to know that K.G. received the cupcakes at her school and was very excited. She told me they are delicious!

D.F.

The cupcakes looked lovely! Everyone said they tasted great, and thank you for making the special soy order.

Will be in contact soon no doubt :)

G. Los Angeles

“The cupcakes look lovely, great presentation.

My feedback from M.was: "Best cupcake I ever tasted", so a big thumbs up from us both.

Thank you so much for everything.

They looked lovely and tasted delicious.  She was very pleased with them.”

“I just wanted to let you know that my daughter and her friends loved the cupcakes you made for them at the weekend.  They were really pretty.  The service you provided was excellent, particularly the timely delivery and, as

I am a sucker for packaging, the beautiful and stylish presentation of the cakes.  I would definitely come back

for more if I need them in the future!

Great Cambourne”

I was the lucky recipient of one of your cupcakes on the 16th September. Thank-you, it was delicious!

Some products are subject to a price increase from today. The rising costs of ingredients and fuel have forced this change, however you will find that I am still extremely competitively priced.

Just Desserts Event

24th April 2010

Lion Yard Shopping Centre want to reward their loyal shoppers this April, so why not join us on Saturday 24th April between 10am and 4pm at our Just Desserts event – an inaugural sweet treat not to be missed. Our Just Desserts event will feature delicious samples and giveaways from our tenants including Millies Cookies, Hotel Chocolat as well as other Cambridge based restaurants, patisseries and cafes. The central library will also be joining in the fun showcasing the fabulous cook books and DVDs members can borrow and hosting their very own recipe ‘swap shop.’

I will be taking part in the Just Desserts event, so DO come along to try out some of my more unusual cupcakes and desserts. Cupcakes will be available to buy individually on the day. I’m planning on bringing Maple Syrup Cupcakes, Fresh Ginger and Molasses Cupcakes and one other to be decided, maybe Red Velvet, plus maybe some mini Pecan Pies…. There will be plenty there to entice anyway!

Press Coverage

Please look out for a fantastic article on the sweet kitchen in the April issue of The Cambridgeshire Journal! I was lucky enough to be interviewed and photographed by them in March. They came to visit me at my house and I had made some pastel coloured cupcakes with Spring flowers and roses. They looked so pretty set up on vintage and modern glass cake stands and a vintage embroidered cloth – see my photos on my blog and the professional ones in the issue due out on 1st April – I can’t wait to see it! All of my family want copies too, so I will be clearing the shelves when I go shopping!

I also had details of my Easter cupcakes included in the March issue of East - the article was just below an article on Jamie Oliver’s new restaurant in Cambridge, so I’m keeping good company!

The phone has been ringing off the hook this month with orders from new customers, people who’ve bought before and people who have eaten my cakes at a party and then want to order for themselves. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, they say…

Large Orders and Weddings

I am taking more and more orders for weddings, christenings and large parties. I have a 7 tiered stand which can be hired out and really shows off the cupcakes (or brownies and cookies) off to the best effect. See my blog for a photo of the stand all piled up with cupcakes and brownies. I baked cakes for a 65th birthday in March for a fisherman – the cupcakes were decorated with sparkly fish and fishing tackle! Taking all these orders does mean that a lot of weekends are getting booked up, so if you know you want to order for a special event at a weekend, I would urge you to book the date, even if you don’t know exactly what you want yet.

New Products

The Mini Cupcakes are going like hot cakes – they look so sweet in the presentation box and make a cost-effective way of catering for larger numbers. Again, see my blog for the latest ones which have gone out with colourful Spring flowers.

Whoopie Pies – the next big thing!

The Whoopie Pie consists of two sponge-like cookies sandwiched together with a frosting. They are flying out of bakeries Stateside and are rumoured to be the next big thing after cupcakes! You can choose from:

Chocolate Whoopie Pies with Peanut Butter Frosting

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies with Vanilla Frosting or Cream Cheese Frosting

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies with Cinnamon Frosting

Lemon Whoopie Pies with Lemon Frosting

Raspberry Whoopie Pies with Raspberry Frosting.

All flavours are £14.95 for 12.

Why not give them a try and be a trend-setter?

Large Layer Cakes

I am often asked for large cakes which can feed more people than my standard 8 inch layer cakes, so now all of my layer cakes are available in a 10″ size – enough to feed 20 people. Orders are priced individually, so please contact me for a quote.

April Specials

The flavour of the month continues to be Coconut Cupcakes with Seven Minute Frosting. You can also still order the Easter cupcakes without the Easter decorations: Vanilla Buttermilk or Chocolate Buttermilk. Once Easter has gone, they will be delivered with Spring flowers on the top.

Price Increase

There will be a price increase coming into effect at the end of April 2010. I will have been trading for a year by then, and during that time I have absorbed price increases in ingredients, necessary supplies, fuel etc, but I’m afraid the time has come to raise prices. Please be assured that I do my best to make sure prices are as competitive as they can be. If you shop around, you’ll see that my products are very competitively priced.

February Newsletter

1st February 2010

Valentine's Day is fast approaching. Order a box of 12 beautiful Valentine's Day cupcakes for your loved ones, delivered to their door (check the website for the delivery area covered) or perhaps drop a big hint to your other half! A personalised message can be attached. Book your slot now in order to avoid disappointment! You have the choice of two types of cupcakes:

12 x Valentines’ Day ‘Red Velvet’ Cupcakes

Red Velvet Sponge with Vanilla Frosting - in red and white spot cases, decorated with an amazing assortment of designs from red icing plaques, to red roses, red chocolate heart dragees, red sparkles and red & white heart sprinkles. £16.95

12 x Valentine's Day ‘Vintage’ Cupcakes

Vanilla or lemon sponge in pastel cases with pastel frostings, ‘lovehearts’ and pastel non-pareils or sugar strands. £15.95

I am also offering the option of attaching a beautiful rose corsage to your box of Valentines' Cupcakes, all handmade to order by Paperwhite Flower Design - full details and photos should be loaded on the website within the next day or two.

I seem to be taking more and more large orders for parties and weddings, which is great. I am investing in bigger mixers and 7 tier acrylic stands, so that cupcake towers can be shown off to their best effect.

I have also had a couple of orders from people in the USA and New Zealand who have asked me to send cakes to their families in this area - it's a small world!

More people are requesting cakes for those who suffer from various allergies, so I am currently working on some gluten-free and wheat-free cake recipes, which I hope to load on the website soon. Testing recipes is always important, but when it comes to replacing regular flour, it is crucial to get the right balance of ingredients.  I think the first cake coming will be a Gluten-Free Lemon Drizzle Cake.

I am quite happy to research recipes, if there is something in particular which you would like to try. For instance, the Red Velvet Cupcakes for Valentines Day are a new introduction. I hope you will decide to try them and enjoy them as much we did with the test recipe...

3rd January 2010

Thank you to everyone who has ordered from me during 2009 and for getting the sweet kitchen off to a flying start!

January Specials:

I have deliberated long and hard over what to offer as a special in January, that time of year when most of us go on a diet! In the end I decided that if you have a birthday or celebration in January, you might like the choice of something delicious and seasonal, just as in other months of the year, so I have decided to go with a fruit which is only available at this time of year - the Seville orange. There are cupcakes, layer cakes and brownies to choose from - see the Monthly Specials Page for full details.

I am in the process of creating a Valentine’s Day page, where you will be able to order delicious gifts for your loved ones, so do keep checking back. Delivery slots are limited, so if you would like something, please do book a slot as soon as possible.

This coming year promises to be an exciting and busy one. I have taken several orders for wedding cupcake towers already and this is just one aspect of the business I am going to promote this year. If you have friends and family looking for wedding cupcakes or cakes for any other celebrations, do point them in my direction!

May I wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful 2010.
